Communications Infrastructure and AV (including AV, Security and Clinical Systems)

Project Description
New construction of a 200,000 sq.-ft. building over 22 months at a cost of $60 million which included the build out of:

• Approximately 2,500 Data and Voice Cables
• 6 Communications Equipment Rooms (CERs)
• 22 Conference Rooms with advanced AV systems
• Access Control and CCTV
• Nurse Call system

As part of the overall project, 25 conference rooms were added to support the needs of the building occupants. Ranging from simple meeting rooms to large multi-use rooms and an executive boardroom with video conferencing, each space was custom designed to meet the needs of broad user groups.

​​​Archi-Technology's Role​​
​Archi-Technology was the lead technology designer for this project as well as the project coordinator of University of Rochester Medical Center staff, vendors and contractors.

​Technology Construction Management (TCM) services were also used by URMC to ensure correct vendor installation and interoperability of the technology infrastructure and interconnected systems.

Challenges

• Multiple stake holders and timeline as well as budget issues during an economic downturn.
• One occupant group imposed additional requirements. Housing the National Center for Deaf Health Research (NCDHR) meant that all conference rooms would need to ensure hearing-impaired users had the support they require.
