Client Background
Nazareth College—or "Naz" for short—is a private college in Pittsford, New York, a suburb of Rochester, New York, that offers 60+ undergraduate majors and more than two dozen graduate programs. Nazareth offers more than 60 four-year undergraduate programs, more than 20 master's degree programs, a Doctorate of Physical Therapy, and three post-baccalaureate certificate programs. In 2017, there were 2,034 undergraduates and 789 postgraduate students. (Source: Wikipedia) Project Description New construction a 74,000 sq/ft building with four floors devoted to learning space. The building program space includes eight classrooms and laboratory lecture rooms that offer state-of-the-art technology and 20 labs to serve biology, chemistry, physics, math, computing and ecology. As part of the overall project, AV support was integrated into ten classrooms, 12 labs and one seminar room. One of the key elements of the technology integrated was the need to help prepare the teachers of tomorrow. Each room features an interactive white board and support for modern laptops and imaging equipment, analogous to what is seen in an ever-increasing number of elementary and high school classrooms. The end users goals needed to be balanced with the college’s standards and five-year technology plan. |

Challenges
- AV systems coordination with lab equipment and differing presentation and teaching styles by faculty.
- Integrating the technology with architectural constraints was a key aspect to trying to ensure the room remained functional while still being aesthetically pleasing.
- The science labs posed an interesting design challenge of how to incorporate the interactive whiteboard, PC, controls and auxiliary inputs into an area with no usable wall space or dedicated teaching location. Ultimately, all were able to be concealed into the millwork and behind a set of sliding white boards; when not in use they are completely invisible to the end user.

- Firm Responsibility Cost: $1,000,000
- Total AV Project Cost: $375,000
